What is the Deep O.C.E.A.N. model?

Deep O.C.E.A.N. is the evolution of the Big Five personality model, also known as the O.C.E.A.N. model. With over 80 years and more than 10.000 studies, it is the confirmed state-of-the-art tool in personality research.

Professors Collin DeYoung, Lena Quilty, and Jordan B. Peterson further developed this in 2007 and introduced the 10 Aspects Model to the market. Through years of practical work, the Deep O.C.E.A.N. Institute has optimized this scientific model and made it usable for practical application.

Deep O.C.E.A.N. offers pragmatic applicability based on the highest, most advanced, and scientific insights.

The main advantage: It provides the latest and highest level of personality research and is the perfect blend of being as ‘detailed’ as necessary and as ‘practical’ as possible.

O.C.E.A.N. – a solid foundation

What is the O.C.E.A.N. personality model?

The Big Five personality model forms a robust scientific foundation. The model of the five personality dimensions, also known by the acronym ‘O.C.E.A.N.,’ has been continuously developed over the last 80 years and has been utilized in over 10.000 studies.

A scientifically grounded model of personality analysis.

A state-of-the-art instrument in modern personality research.

The O.C.E.A.N. model has been used in over 10,000 studies.

Scientists developed the O.C.E.A.N. model after a statistical analysis of the language people use to describe others.
They found that personality adjectives can be grouped into five main categories.

From this, the following five traits have emerged:

OPENESS

Openness for ideas
and aethetics

CONSCIENTIOUSNESS

Achievement focused,
Perfectionism

EXTRAVERSION

Sociability,
Assertivness

AGREEABLENESS

Empathatic,
Consideration

NEUROTICISM

emotianal volatility,
Anxiety-prone

Let’s dive even deeper. – Deep O.C.E.A.N.

DeYoung, Quilty, and Peterson developed a model in 2007 that further subdivides the five factors of the O.C.E.A.N. model into two additional aspects each. This dual distinction per trait is also reflected in numerous neuroscientific studies. Specific networks in the brain can be associated and demonstrated for each of these aspects.

The two aspects make it possible to differentiate the personality even more precisely, delving even deeper into the intricacies of personality. Practice has shown that humans are too complex to be categorized into just five traits.

Based on these scientific findings, Dr. Frederik Hümmeke, Vanessa Buchner, Alexander Hartmann, and their team have optimized and made the Deep O.C.E.A.N. model practical for over 10 years of continuous application and development. With Deep O.C.E.A.N., you can easily analyze your personality in detail, providing enough complexity yet being pragmatic enough for practical application.
